System Requirements
Desktop:
Microsoft ® Windows XPsp2, Vista or Windows 7
Microsoft ® Access 2000, XP, 2003, 2007 or 2010 (32 bit)
LAN connection (for multi-user configuration)
Adobe Acrobat (for storing and sending reports)
50mb storage for application files
Server (for multi-user configuration):
Designated shared directories
Simultaneous, multiple user access, r/w permissions.
1 – 30 MB storage per average project file. |
Can more than one user work on the same project at the same time?
Yes. The application is designed for the entire project team to use. Each project (an Access database file) can handle up to 255 users at a time.
Can the applications handle extremely large complicated projects?
Absolutely. An Access database can store up to 2 gigabytes of data (includes the db system objects, which are 1-3 MB).
Do I need a licensed copy of Access on each end-user's machine?
Yes. The application needs to run locally on each end-user's machine. In multi-user environments the project files are stored in a shared directory on a server drive. Tables in a project file are linked to the application file on each user's machine. The user can switch from one project to the other from the application on their machine by means of automated "Project Navigation" routines.
Can I run these on Vista or Windows 7?
Yes, either the 32 or 64 bit versions. Note however that Microsoft Office Access must be the 32 bit version.
Is there a limit to the number of projects the application can handle.
There is no limit. Each project file is independent. The user's application file ("front-end") is linked to tables in a project file ("back-end") using automated navigation routines.
Is there a run-time version?
There is not. One of the most appreciated features of our desktop applications is that because they run on Access, data can be manipulated, imported and exported, and system objects can be modified, enhanced, etc. A run-time version wouldn't provide this.
Is there a SQLServer version?
There is not. The desktop applications all run on Microsoft Access ®, version 2000, 2003, 2005 or 2007. The reason is that we are committed to keeping the applications easy to install, easy to use and easy to move from server to laptop and back.
Can the application be run from the server?
Not recommended. Performance is reduced and if you have multiple users there will be problems. Install the Earnest system files on each end-user's local drive: c:\earnest\ . |
